As previously reported, OKIE was the catalyst for the formation of an
exciting, cutting edge medical company: Nanomed Targeting Systems,
Inc. At the 2007 biomedical conference sponsored by OKIE and the
Oklahoma Department of Commerce, Israeli businessman Alex Harel
met Dr. Ken Dormer, an OU professor, medical researcher and a leading
authority in nanoparticle medicine.
That meeting led to the development of a technology for treating atrial
fibrillation using powerful magnets to direct drug-encased magnetic
nanoparticles into optimal position for effectiveness of the drugs. This
system promises to be less invasive, less costly and possibly more
effective than surgery.
Nanomed has completed testing its first prototype, in vitro
(laboratory) and in vivo (animal) research. Currently in the pre-clinical
phase, they are preparing for human trials and the FDA approval
process.
Two dinner meetings are scheduled to present their story to the medical
community and interested investors: Tuesday, September 20 at the
Jewish Federation of Tulsa and Thursday, September 22 at the Jewish
Federation of Greater Oklahoma City.
